EIC Accelerator Deadlines 2026: Step 1, Step 2 and Interview Timeline

The EIC Accelerator is continuously open, but proposals are grouped into evaluation batches. In 2026, the process follows a simple funnel: monthly batching for Step 1 short proposals, six batching dates for Step 2 full proposals and three final jury interview periods.

Applicants should use the next relevant stage as their planning target rather than trying to predict an exact funding date at the beginning. Evaluation time, interview scheduling and possible rejections make the complete process difficult to forecast accurately.

Step 1 Deadlines: The First Tuesday of Every Month

Short proposals can be submitted at any time, but the EIC sends them for evaluation in monthly batches at 17:00 Brussels time on the first Tuesday of every month. A proposal submitted after that batching time remains in the system for the following month's evaluation.

The call can therefore appear to have one closing date at the end of the year while still operating twelve evaluation batches. The practical Step 1 target is always the next first Tuesday, not the final date displayed for the continuously open call.

The EIC normally communicates the short-proposal result approximately four to six weeks after batching. Successful applicants receive a GO and can prepare a full proposal; unsuccessful applicants can revise and resubmit subject to the overall submission limit.

Step 2 Full-Proposal Batches in 2026

Full proposals can also be submitted continuously, but they are evaluated in six batches during 2026.

There is no full-proposal batch corresponding to every monthly Step 1 batch. A company receiving a Step 1 GO should review the next realistic Step 2 date, create the full-proposal draft and allow enough time to prepare the 20-page form and supporting annexes.

The Step 2 Technology-Expert Meeting

Approximately three to four weeks after a full-proposal batch, the applicant is expected to meet the assigned technology expert online. The exact scheduling instructions are communicated by the EIC.

Applicants should select an available time that leaves sufficient preparation time where the scheduling process permits. The expert examines the technology, market, financial viability, team and implementation plan, so the company must understand the complete submission rather than preparing only a technical presentation.

The technology expert submits an assessment to the evaluation panel, which reviews and scores the proposal. The EIC indicates that applicants should receive the remote full-proposal result approximately eight to nine weeks after the batching date.

Step 3 Jury Interviews

The highest-ranked full proposals are invited to a final EIC Jury interview. Interview sessions are organised approximately three times per year, so there is not a jury period after every Step 2 batch.

The invitation specifies whether the interview is physical in Brussels or remote and provides the applicable date. Applicants should not book travel or build their application plan around a physical interview until the official invitation confirms the format.

The final interview consists of a 10-minute pitch and approximately 35 minutes of questions and answers. The result is normally communicated about two to three weeks after the interview period concludes.

A Typical Application Timeline

1. Submit Step 1 before the first Tuesday monthly batch.
2. Wait approximately four to six weeks for the Step 1 result.
3. After a GO, prepare Step 2 for the next realistic full-proposal batch.
4. Meet the technology expert online during the full-proposal assessment period.
5. Receive the remote-stage result approximately eight to nine weeks after the Step 2 batch.
6. If invited, prepare for the jury interview during the applicable interview period.
7. Receive the final interview result approximately two to three weeks after the interviews finish.
8. If selected, begin grant-agreement preparation and, where applicable, the EIC Fund due-diligence and investment process.

What Happens After a Rejection?

An unsuccessful result normally returns the applicant to the stage at which the rejection occurred. A Step 1 NO GO requires a revised short proposal. A rejection during the remote full-proposal assessment or final jury process requires a revised full proposal rather than restarting from Step 1, provided the company remains eligible to resubmit.

Under the Horizon Europe submission rule in force from 2024, the same or improved proposal by the same legal entity can receive a maximum of three unsuccessful applications in total across the short proposal, full proposal and interview stages. This means three unsuccessful applications, not three additional attempts after an initial rejection.

Why Applicants Should Not Plan Backwards From a Funding Date

A company can estimate the next batch, but it cannot know in advance whether it will pass every stage, which jury period it will enter or how long grant preparation and investment due diligence will take. One rejection can shift the process by several months.

The practical approach is to target the next achievable stage while maintaining a company financing plan that does not depend on an exact EIC payment date. For a new applicant, that means focusing first on the next Step 1 batch and treating later dates as planning scenarios rather than promises.
